Terminal A Info & Layout
Terminal A at Reagan National Airport, now known as Terminal 1, primarily handles domestic flights and is a hub for airlines such as Air Canada Express, Frontier, and Southwest, with Southwest having the largest presence. The terminal features 9 gates, labeled A1 through A9. Originally designed by architect Charles M. Goodman, Terminal A opened in 1941 and has undergone several renovations to modernize its facilities, including a $37 million renovation completed in 2014 that added brighter lighting, more windows, and new flooring, along with an expanded TSA security checkpoint.
Travelers can access Terminal A via pedestrian walkways from parking areas and ground transportation. However, it is important to note that Terminal A is not connected post-security to Terminal 2, meaning passengers transferring between these terminals must exit and re-enter through security.
A unique feature of Terminal A is its preserved original architecture, which offers travelers a glimpse into the historical design of the airport, with restorations completed on both the airside and landside facades. The terminal also offers upgraded concessions and amenities for a comfortable travel experience.
