Santorini Thira National Airport JTR - also known as 'Thira Airport' - serves the Greek island of Santorini (part of the Cyclades Islands situated in the Aegean Sea), and known for its white-washed traditional houses of its villages situated on top of 300 meter cliffs, with a panoramic view of the volcano submerged below. Santorini's black sandy beaches, its archeological sites and its spectacular sundowns draw thousands of visitors each year.
- The new Concessionaire Fraport Greece, which is now managing 14 Greek Airports, is starting to make much-needed upgrades to each of those airports, including Santorini.
JTR Airport is located north of the village of Kamari, next to the Monolithos area, and 6 km southeast of Fira, the capital of the island of Santorini.
With about 1M passengers a year, Santorini Airport is served by domestic airlines within Greece, and by European charters. However, do to short runway restrictions, the airport can only serve six airplanes simultaneously. (Since Olympic Air & Aegean Airlines merged, there is still no new airline name).
The small passenger terminal at Santorini Thira Airport has an area for light refreshments/bars, a duty-free shop (tel. +30 22860 34194), a jewelry shop, an ATM machine, travel agents, an information desk tel. (+30 22860 28400), and rental car desks.
A KTEL Bus into town runs every 15 minutes and takes about 15 minutes. (tel. +30 22860 22860 /22555)
