Getting Around IAD Airport
At IAD Airport, navigating through the terminals is facilitated by a combination of the AeroTrain system and mobile lounges. The main terminal serves as the hub for ticketing, baggage claim, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. It connects to the midfield terminal buildings, Concourses A/B and C/D, which house most of the gates. Here are a few tips to help you move between these areas smoothly:
- The AeroTrain provides quick transportation between the main terminal and Concourses A, B, and C. Note that it does not currently serve Concourse D; for this concourse, you will need to use a mobile lounge.
- Concourses A and B are directly accessible via the AeroTrain, with stations conveniently located close to key gates. If you're traveling to or from Concourse C, the AeroTrain stops north of the concourse, requiring a brief walk to reach the gates.
- For international arrivals, or if you're departing from hardstand gates (H gates), mobile lounges are still in use. These lounges transport passengers directly to the International Arrivals Building or to their aircraft.
Walking paths and clear signage throughout the airport assist in guiding you to your destination. If you prefer to walk, there are pedestrian tunnels connecting the main terminal with Concourses A and B. Always allow extra time for transportation between terminals, especially if using the mobile lounges, as they can be less frequent than the AeroTrain.
