South African Airways Pet Policy
South African Airways has specific policies in place for traveling with pets. Unfortunately, small pets are not permitted to fly in the cabin with Airlink. However, small to medium dogs and cats may be accepted for transport as checked baggage. It is important to note that two adult animals up to 30 lbs (14 kg) each, who are used to each other, may be shipped in the same carrier. If the animals exceed this weight limit, they must travel individually.
When traveling with pets as checked baggage, it is required that carriers are IATA-approved. These carriers must be rigid, well-ventilated, and have a strong door system. It is essential that animals are able to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably inside the carrier. For longer flights, it is recommended to provide snub-nosed animals with more space in the front of their carriers to ensure they can breathe properly while in the air.
