Swiss International Air Lines Pet Policy

Swiss International Air Lines is a pet-friendly carrier, ensuring safe and comfortable travel for your furry companions. The airline allows each passenger to travel with up to two pets. To ensure a smooth journey, it's recommended to book your pet's travel plans by contacting the Swiss Airlines Service Center Team at (+41) 848 700 700. Please note that for flights heading to Switzerland, pets must be checked at the airport, and any animal not meeting entry requirements may be ordered to return to its origin country by the Border Veterinary Service.

Small cats and dogs can join their owners in the passenger cabin, provided they and their carrier collectively weigh less than 17 lbs (8 kg). Swiss Airlines expects cabin pets to be clean, healthy, and free from any unpleasant odors. It's important to note that Swiss Airlines does not permit animals that could pose a danger, are pregnant, or could potentially disturb other passengers. Fees for pets differ based on destination, with costs ranging from 60 CHF for flights from Switzerland to Europe to 100 USD for Intercontinental-Intercontinental via Europe.

For pets and their carriers exceeding 17 lbs (8 kg), or those with a transport container larger than the permitted 118 cm in dimensions, Swiss Airlines requires them to travel as checked cargo in the hold. Dogs belonging to certain breeds deemed dangerous must travel in an appropriate cargo crate and are not permitted in the cabin. Carriers are classified as medium or large, based on their dimensions, and a fee is charged according to their size and the flight's route.

Guidance, Tips, & info on Airlines and Airports

If your pets are traveling independently, or if their destination countries require them to be transported as cargo, you can utilize Swiss World Cargo services. You can directly contact them at (+41) 44-564-54-54 to plan your pet's journey and make the necessary arrangements.

Swiss Airlines mandates specific container sizes for cabin and cargo travel. Cabin carriers must be soft, clean, escape-proof, and scratch-proof, with a maximum size of 46" (118 cm). The carrier must comfortably house the animal, which must stay completely inside it throughout the flight. For animals traveling in the hold, carrier sizes range between medium and large based on the dimensions. These carriers must be well-stocked with food and water for the journey's duration and constructed from durable materials like wood, metal, or synthetic mesh.

Certain breed restrictions apply due to some pets' sensitivity to temperature and stress. This list includes several breeds of dogs and cats, including but not limited to, Boston Terriers, Bulldogs, Boxers, Shih Tzus, Persian cats, and Scottish Folds. Dogs such as American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, and others are also subject to these restrictions. Please note that emotional support dogs are only accepted free of charge on SWISS flights to/from the USA (including direct connections).

It's crucial to remember that Swiss International Air Lines may revise these policies at any time. Therefore, it is advised to check directly with the airline for the most accurate and up-to-date information before you book your tickets.
