Athens Venizelos International Airport AIA, opened in 2001, is Greece's primary airport, serving its capital City Athens and surrounding areas.  In June 2014, ACI-Europe has voted AIA as being 'Best Airport' in the 10-25 million passenger category.  Athens Airport has been voted as being the 'Top Efficiency Performer for 2017.

AIA Airport is located between the towns of Markopoulo and Loutsa, in the Region of Attica, and 20 km southeast of the city center of Athens. The main access road to the Airport is Attiki Odos, or the E94 (Exit 20). Furthermore, Metroline 3 makes a stop at the Airport.

With two very long runways and 20M passengers in 2016, Athens International Airport is hub to Olympic Air & Aegean Airlines, and is served by a host of airlines offering direct and connecting flights to all points of the globe. Domestic airlines offer connections to the myriad of Greek islands scattered in the Aegean Sea, as well to destinations on the mainland.
