Getting Around HNL Airport

Daniel K. Inouye International Airport is composed of three main terminals: Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and Terminal 3. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are connected post-security, allowing passengers to move between them without having to re-clear security. However, travelers walking from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 will need to pass through a USDA agricultural inspection station for their carry-on luggage. Terminal 3, situated between the Delta and United Cargo facilities, is more isolated and mainly serves smaller commuter flights.

Terminal 1, formerly known as the Interisland Terminal, has 25 gates and includes the recently opened Mauka Concourse, which adds space for additional aircraft and a new six-lane TSA security checkpoint. Terminal 2, the largest terminal, handles all international flights and has 29 gates, including specialized gates for large aircraft like the Airbus A380. Terminal 3, which opened in 2018, is a smaller facility primarily used for regional flights.

To navigate the airport efficiently, consider the following tips:

  • Utilize the post-security walkway between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 to avoid re-clearing security.
  • Be prepared for the USDA agricultural inspection when moving from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2.
  • Check terminal maps available throughout the airport for gate locations and amenities.
  • Allow extra time if your flight departs from Terminal 3, as it is more isolated from the other terminals.
