Oaxaca Xoxocotlan International Airport OAX - at an elevation of 4,990 feet - serves the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico, and is operated by ASUR. The operating hours are 6am-10pm.
The Airport is located near the city of Oaxaca de Juarez. From the ringroad around downtown Oaxaca it is only a ten-minute ride to the Airport. (From the Airport to the city center take the access road, at first set of traffic lights turn left, drive straingt on; after 10 minutes you get to the ring road circling Oaxaca; follow road signs from there.) If you spend time in Oaxaca, it is highly recommended to take a tour of the ethnobotanical garden in the courtyard located in the back of the regional museum.
With a long runway and 746,910 passengers in 2016, Oaxaca International is served by a few domestic airlines serving Mexico City, Monterrey & Tijuana, and by United Airlines to Houston Intercontinental, with connections worldwide.
The passenger terminal at Oaxaca Xoxocotlan Airport offers 22 check-in counters, an Information booth, Santander banking branch & ATM, Cardtronics ATM, food & drink & retail concessions, duty-free shop, and full-service restaurant. & medical services.
Note that as you exit 'Aduana' (Customs) and the baggage claim area, you go through a glass door and exit into the small lobby area. Straight ahead is the exit door and to its right is the ticket booth where you can buy your van ride ticket.
To get from the Airport to your destination, you can rent a car, take a taxi or one of the many shared-ride-vans ('colectivos'). Taxis and vans are very reasonable, but you need pesos for the fare. Transporte Terrestre vans have their offices across from the cathedral in Oxaca. Getting to Teotitlan will take about 40 minutes.
