Getting Around the Airport

The terminal building structure at the Des Moines Airport has one main Terminal with an upper level, lower level, and two concourses - Concourse A and Concourse C. Both concourses of the DSM airport are located across from each other and are served by American, Delta, Allegiant, Frontier, Southwest, and United airlines.

Main Terminal

The lower level of the terminal houses the ticketing lobby towards the right and the baggage claim area towards the left. There are also rental and ground transportation counters near the baggage claim. The skywalk in the center connects to the North & South parking garages.

The upper level of the terminal houses the security checkpoint which provides access to Concourse A and Concourse C. Between the two concourses are The Capitol Market Place, Iowa Tap Room, and True Burger.

Other services and amenities inside the terminal and concourse areas include Free WiFi, a family restroom near the Southwest baggage claim, meeting and conference rooms on the skywalk level, a Mamava Nursing Pod opposite the security checkpoint, and ATMs. Outside near the skywalk, there is a pet relief area.

Concourse A

Concourse A has first gates A1 & A2, followed by the business center, and thereafter a connector to gates A3 & A4, with an escalator down to the lower level with gates A5A to A5C.

You can find a family restroom at Gate A5 and ATMs throughout the concourse.

Concourse C

Concourse C has gates C1 to C7 at three clusters connected by a walkway - gates C1/C2, C3/C4 & C5/C6/C7.

You can find a family restroom near Gate C7 and ATMs throughout the concourse.

Food, Shops & Amenities

There are many options for shopping and dining around the DSM airport. Some notable dining and restaurants include Berk & Chesters, Friedrichs' Coffee, and Arugula & Rye in the pre-security areas, and Coffee & BAR in Concourse C. Shopping options include Tech On The Go and 5th & Sunset.

Security Checkpoints

The security checkpoints at DSM airport are monitored by the Federal TSA - Transportation Security Administration. Only passengers possessing tickets are allowed to proceed beyond the security checkpoints. All security checkpoints provide access to the concourses and airplane gates.

Terminal Tips

  • Before packing your travel bags, please review the TSA security guidelines to find out what items are allows
  • For finding out about check-ins, luggage restrictions, and flight schedules, contact your respective airlines
  • Arrive 90 minutes before flight time in case of domestic flights, and two hours before flight time in case of international flights.
  • In case of lost items:
    • Call your airline for lost items inside the aircraft, departure lounge, or at the ticket counters
    • Call the rental company for lost items inside the rental cars
