US citizens - Planning to purchase tickets from Dublin to JFK on a KLM flight (operated by Delta), and then take a domestic flight with Delta from JFK to CLT. These would be via separate itineraries, and we are not planning on checking luggage. I saw on a previous post that flights from Shannon have a resource where you can pre-clear US customs before departing from Ireland. Would this be available for us in this case? It looks like both flights typically operate in terminal 4 at JFK, so we could save a lot of time if we have already cleared customs and can just go gate to gate without checked bags. The layover between the flights we are looking at is just over an hour, so if we have to go through customs in JFK then we will need to adjust our plans. Thanks!
Yes, you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Dublin. So yes, you can just go from your arrival gate to your departure gate in JFK.
I'm flying in on Delta from Orlando with an ETA of 15.30 on a wednesday and then am booked on another flight to Zurich (ZHR) at 17.50 with AA. Is that enough time to claim and then re-check our luggage while also changing terminals? The bookings were done seperately.
That's just enough time if everything goes smoothly. You will take the AirTrain between terminals.
My elderly mother and I are flying from Lisbon through JFK to MSP to DSM (Delta airlines). Our connection time in JFK is 1 hour 33 minutes. Does Lisbon allow us to pre-clear customs or will we go through customs in JFK. Is this enough time on a Friday night to make our connection?
There is no Pre-clearance in Lisbon. At JFK you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. You have barely enough time.
Thank you for your reply. We will choose a later flight.
I will be travelling from Amman to jfk (royal jordanian) than have connection flight to tampa florida (through delta airlines). Booked seperatly. Is a 3 hour and 25 mins connection flight enough in JFk airport (go through customs, pick up the bags, pass through security .)
That's just enough time if everything goes smoothly.
I land at JFK with Caribbean Airlines in terminal 4 at 2 pm from the Caribbean. I have to make a connecting flight with Delta to Detroit that leaves at 4:51 pm. I was wondering if this is enough time to make my connecting? Will I have to go through customs when I land or is it possible to take the delta bus to terminal 2? I will just have a carry on, so no need to worry about my luggage.
Yes, when you arrive you will have to go through US Immigration, Customs, and Security. You should have just enough time if the Caribbean flight is on-time.
I am flying from Boston to NYC LGA to Louisville (SDF). I have a 1-hour layover in NYC LGA, is that enough time to catch my flight to Louisville?
What airlines are you flying?
American Airlines for both
Then yes, that is enough time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If they are in different terminals, then AA runs a shuttle bus inside security between all their gates. Also be aware that you posted this on the forum for JFK airport and you said your connection is at LGA Airport. Just confirming that your connection is at LaGuardia and not JFK.
Hello, I am travelling alone with two young children and have only two hours to make a connection from CDG-JFK (Air France), then JFK-IAD (Jet Blue). I know it will be tight so I am not checking baggage. Is there any assistance for people with small children? Express lanes for customs? Any advice? This is not one ticket, FYI. Thank you in advance.
There is no assistance for people with young children. There are also no express lanes. This is a very difficult connection.
My mother in law lands in JFK tomorrow morning on a China southern flight from China. Terminal 4. After clearing customs with luggage she'll need to recheck it for the Delta flight to Nashville (should also be terminal 4). They did not check her baggage all the way to BNA though so she'll need to get that and a boarding pass. Is the transfer desk for delta there at the customs exit? Or which way should she head after customs in order to get her luggage situated and headed to Nashville?
She will need to go to the Delta check-in desk on the departure level.
