Southwest Airlines Pet Policy

Southwest Airlines allows customers to travel with small cats and dogs in the cabin on domestic flights. Customers may bring up to 2 cats or dogs of the same species if they can comfortably fit inside the carrier. The pet carrier must be small enough to fit under the seat in front of yours and will count as your carry-on bag. There is a pet fee of $95 per pet carrier each way. It is important to note that pets are not permitted on international flights and only 6 carriers are allowed on each flight.

Unlike some other airlines, Southwest Airlines does not require a health certificate or any other documentation from your veterinarian for your pet to travel. However, it is always a good idea to consult with your veterinarian before traveling to ensure your pet is healthy and fit for travel.

Unfortunately, Southwest Airlines does not allow pets to travel as checked baggage. Therefore, if you are traveling with a pet, they must accompany you in the cabin.

Guidance, Tips, & info on Airlines and Airports

For pets traveling in the cabin, the maximum dimensions for the carrier are 18.5" x 8.5" x 13.5" (47 cm x 22 cm x 34 cm). The carrier must be leak-proof, well-ventilated, and provide enough space for your cat or dog to stand up and move around comfortably.

Keep in mind that air carriers can change these policies at any time, so you should always check directly with Southwest Airlines before you book for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
