Getting Around the Airport
Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport is located at 61 Terminal Drive Fletcher, NC 28732 on the Buncombe County / Henderson County line. The airport is coded as AVL airport and is open 24/7 365 days per year. The Greater Asheville Regional Airport Authority has ownership over the airport.
The highest number of passengers were served by the AVL airport in 2019 with an all-time record high of 1,616,762 passengers. This was an increase of 43% in 2019 as compared to the year 2018. This was recorded as the highest traffic year for the AVL airport consecutively for the sixth year.
The airport opened with a 6500-foot runway in 1961, replacing the former airport at 35.439°N 82.481°W.
The terminal building structure at the AVL airport has one main terminal building which houses all airport facilities.
There is a main entrance located at the very centre of the terminal, after which there are airline ticket counters towards the right and baggage claim carousels towards the left. Next to the baggage claim carousels there are rental car counters. Towards the extreme right there is a Pet Relief Area. Located in this area are restrooms, TTY phone and recharge stations on the left of the entrance, emergency phone, vending machine, and water fountain.
In the pre-security area you will also find an ATM, Postal box, Art Gallery, Business Center near Gate 1, Rocking chairs, and Family Restroom.
A grand hall leads to the TSA security checkpoint which provides access to the terminal gate areas. This houses the terminal gates labelled as G1-G7. There is an Atrium in this area, restrooms, courtesy phones, water fountains, recharge stations, and a vending machine across gate G6.

Food, Shops & Amenities
There are various shopping and dining options in the HPN airport. For dining there is a café with a restaurant menu as well as a full service restaurant and bar in the pre-security area. There is also Auntie Anne's and Cinnabon in the post-security area.
There is also The Blue Ridge Trading + Tavern for dining for all passengers.
- Passengers are advised to arrive at least 2 hours before their scheduled departure time to account for TSA security wait times and any possible delays.
- To ensure a smooth check-in process, passengers should pack carry-on luggage in a suitable manner, have photo ID ready, and read all the airline guidelines properly prior to arriving at the airport.
- No unattended baggage will be allowed inside the terminal building. You must keep your bags with you at all times.
