Terminal 1 at Mexico City Benito Juarez Airport is a bustling hub primarily handling both domestic and international flights. The terminal, which has been operational since 1958, has expanded significantly over the years to accommodate the growing number of travelers. It covers a vast area of 542,000 square meters and features a two-story building that stretches 800 meters in length.
The terminal is divided into two sections: the eastern side caters to international flights, while the western side serves domestic flights. It boasts a total of 36 gates, with gates 1 to 18 dedicated to domestic flights and gates 19 to 36 designated for international travel. Among these, 33 gates are equipped with jetbridges, and there are an additional 17 remote positions accessible by bus.
Travelers can enjoy a range of amenities and services within Terminal 1. The ground floor hosts arrival facilities, including 22 baggage claim carousels and several domestic check-in areas for airlines such as Volaris, Viva Aerobus, and Magnicharters. The upper floor features international check-in areas, multiple security checkpoints, and a 900-meter long departures concourse. A commercial corridor offers snack kiosks, banks, souvenir shops, and car rental services. Additionally, the terminal houses a variety of VIP lounges, including those operated by American Airlines, MasterCard, American Express, and United Airlines.
Access to Terminal 1 is convenient for passengers, with options including pedestrian walkways and a shuttle bus service connecting to Terminal 2. The inter-terminal transportation is facilitated by a bus service, and passengers with boarding passes can also use the Aerotrén people mover system, which operates at a speed of 45 kilometers per hour.
Unique features of Terminal 1 include its direct access to several nearby hotels, such as the Hilton Aeropuerto México and Camino Real Aeropuerto México, making it a convenient choice for travelers requiring accommodation. The terminal also offers extensive parking facilities for up to 5,500 vehicles, ensuring ease of access for those arriving by car.
