Locations of Security Checkpoint(s)

The Birmingham Shuttlesworth Airport has two security checkpoints located on the upper level of the terminal building. One is located near the American Airlines ticket counter, and the other is located near the Delta Airlines ticket counter. Both checkpoints are open from 3:30 AM until the last flight of the day. Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least two hours before their scheduled departure time to allow enough time for security screening.

Fast Track Lanes and Locations

There are no dedicated fast track lanes at the Birmingham Shuttlesworth Airport. However, TSA PreCheck is available for eligible passengers, which allows them to go through a dedicated security lane and keep on their shoes, belts, and light jackets, and leave laptops and liquids in their carry-on bags. TSA PreCheck is available at both security checkpoints at the airport.

Passport & Immigration Control Locations

The Birmingham Shuttlesworth Airport does not have international flights, so there are no passport and immigration control locations at the airport. However, there is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection office located in downtown Birmingham for those arriving on international flights at other airports in the region.

TSA and TSA Pre Checkpoints

At BHM Airport, the TSA and TSA Pre Checkpoints are located on the upper level of the terminal, near the entrance to the concourse. The TSA Pre Checkpoint allows eligible passengers to go through expedited security screening, without having to remove shoes, belts, and light jackets, or take laptops and liquids out of their carry-on bags. To enroll in TSA Pre, passengers can apply online and schedule an appointment at an enrollment center, which is conveniently located at the airport.

Global Entry Locations

The airport is not a Global Entry Enrollment Center, but it does have a Global Entry kiosk, which allows pre-approved, low-risk travelers to bypass the regular customs and immigration lines when entering the United States. The Global Entry kiosk is located in the international arrivals area of the terminal, near baggage claim. To enroll in Global Entry, passengers can apply online and schedule an appointment at a nearby enrollment center, such as the one in Atlanta, which is about two hours away by car.

CLEAR Lane Locations

At BHM, CLEAR offers expedited security screening services to help travelers get through security faster. CLEAR members can use dedicated lanes to bypass the standard security lines and go straight to the metal detectors. CLEAR Plus members can also bring a guest with them through the CLEAR lane. CLEAR Plus lanes are located in the following terminal(s):

Airport Lounge Locations

Birmingham Shuttlesworth Airport has several lounges available for passengers to relax and unwind before their flight. The Delta Sky Club Lounge is located on the second floor of the terminal, near gate B2. This lounge offers comfortable seating, complimentary snacks and beverages, and free Wi-Fi. The American Airlines Admirals Club Lounge is located near gate A2 and offers similar amenities to the Delta Sky Club Lounge.

Additionally, the airport has a shared lounge called The Club at BHM, which is located near gate B1. This lounge is available to passengers flying with any airline and offers comfortable seating, complimentary snacks and beverages, and free Wi-Fi.

Baggage Claim Areas

After a long flight, the last thing you want is to wait for your luggage in a crowded and confusing baggage claim area. At Birmingham Airport, you can easily locate the baggage claim areas by following the signs and directions provided throughout the terminal. The airport has two baggage claim areas: one for domestic flights and one for international flights. The baggage claim areas are equipped with baggage carousels and plenty of space for passengers to wait for their luggage.

Luggage Cart Availability

If you have heavy or bulky luggage, you may want to use a luggage cart to make your way through the airport. BHM Airport provides luggage carts for passengers to use free of charge. The carts are located in the baggage claim areas and throughout the terminal, making it easy for passengers to find and use them. If you need assistance with your luggage, airport staff are available to help you with the luggage carts.

Luggage Storage Locations (Left Luggage)

If you need to store your luggage for a few hours or days, the airport provides left luggage services. The luggage storage locations are located in the baggage claim areas and are open 24 hours a day. The cost of storing your luggage depends on the size and duration of storage. The airport also provides luggage wrapping services to protect your luggage during storage or transportation.
