Getting Around KOA Airport

At KOA Airport, navigating through the terminal complex can be straightforward if you're familiar with its layout. The airport features a single-level terminal structure spread across three areas. Terminal 1 serves gates 1 to 5, Terminal 2 is home to gates 6 through 10, and Terminal 3 caters to smaller commuter flights. The terminals are open-air, featuring a tropical-style design, which reflects the local environment and can provide a unique and airy atmosphere as you move between gates.

Here are a few tips for getting around inside the airport:

  • Walking Between Terminals: Since the terminals are all on the same level and connected, walking between them is quite manageable. Signage is available to guide you to your gate.
  • Boarding: Be prepared to board your flight using mobile stairs or ramps, as KOA is one of the few airports that does not use jet bridges. This might require some additional mobility or time, especially for those who are not as comfortable with stairs.

Despite its somewhat dated facilities, KOA accommodates a range of aircraft, from smaller commuter planes to larger airliners like the Airbus and Boeing models. This setup ensures that the airport, while maintaining a simpler passenger boarding process, still meets the needs of travelers flying to and from major destinations.
