Rapid City Regional Airport Map & Terminal Guide
Getting Around the Airport
Rapid City Regional Airport is a full-service airport which is carrying out its commercial operations for the Black Hills. It is catering to a majority of the cities throughout the United States.
The RAP airport operates on the mission of providing “a safe, environmentally responsible and fiscally self-sustainable operation ensuring high quality services and facilities.”
RAP is only 2 miles from the village of Caputa, and only a few miles from Rapid City, in the southwest part of South Dakota - situated off Interstate 90.
With expected 793,000 passengers by year-end 2017, Rapid City Regional Airport is presently served by major airlines offering direct flights to major U.S. hubs, with convenient connections.
The terminal building structure at the RAP airport has one main terminal building which houses all airport facilities. It has two main levels.
Level 1 houses three main entrances leading to the baggage claim carousels towards the left and airline ticketing counters towards the right. Towards the left of the baggage claim there are rental car counters and the left of the ticketing counters has restrooms. Next to one of the entrances there is a shuttle stop near which there is an escalator for Level 2.
Level 2 houses a security checkpoint leading up to the terminal gates towards the right and airport administration towards the left. The terminal gates are labelled as Gate 1-7. Restaurant and dining options are available on both sides of the checkpoint, and the same is true for restrooms. Near Gate 1 there is a Gift Shop as well.
Food, Shops & Amenities
There are various shopping and dining options in the RAP airport. For dining there is an RAP Airport restaurant which is located on the second level of the terminal building – one pre-security and one post-security. This is operated by AirHost, Inc. For shopping there is a Gift Shop operated by Mount Rushmore Memories. This is also located on the second level of the main terminal building.
- Passengers are advised to arrive at least 2 hours before their scheduled departure time to account for TSA security wait times and any possible delays.
- To ensure a smooth check-in process, passengers should pack carry-on luggage in a suitable manner, have photo ID ready, and read all the airline guidelines properly prior to arriving at the airport.
- No unattended baggage will be allowed inside the terminal building. You must keep your bags with you at all times.
