Airport History
Yampa Valley Regional Airport (YVRA) was established in 1966, due to the growing need for transportation in and out of the Valley. The ski industry and the energy industry led to the growth of air services. In 1986, the runway was expanded to 10,000 ft to accommodate larger aircraft, and the terminal and taxiway were upgraded in 1987-88. YVRA became self-sufficient in 2007, covering all operating costs through user fees and concession revenue. Construction was completed in 2012, adding a new restaurant and moving administrative offices to the terminal area. Atlantic Aviation purchased the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) in 2014, and a runway and taxiway lighting project was completed in 2015. YVRA published a 20-year Master Plan in 2017, and in 2018, the commercial apron was expanded to accommodate another large commercial aircraft. In 2019, Atlantic’s FBO was relocated to a new ramp on the east end of the airport.

YVRA has played a crucial role in the transportation of the Yampa Valley for over 50 years. It continues to serve as the gateway to Steamboat Springs, Hayden, Craig, and Northwest Colorado. With direct flights to and from major cities such as Denver, Seattle, and Los Angeles, it provides non-stop flights that connect the Yampa Valley to the rest of the world. YVRA's construction and expansion projects over the years have allowed it to handle an increasing amount of air traffic while providing better services and facilities for travelers.
