Airport Overview
El Paso International Airport (ELP) is the gateway to West Texas, Southern New Mexico and Northern Mexico. It provides airline passenger services, air cargo, and general aviation services.
The airport is located four miles (6 km) northeast of downtown El Paso, in El Paso County, Texas. The airport is owned by the City of El Paso and operated by the El Paso Aviation Department.

- El Paso Airport covers an area of 6,670 acres (2,699 ha) and has three runways.
- It is the largest civil airport in West Texas and southern New Mexico.
- In September 2013, El Paso International Airport celebrated its 85th anniversary.
- In 2019, the airport served more than 3 million passengers.
Airport Traveling Tips
- Passengers are recommended to arrive at least 2 hours before a domestic flight departure, and at least 3 hours before an international flight.
- To ensure a hassle-free journey, travelers are advised to print the boarding passes ahead of arrival or plan for mobile boarding.

Passenger Pickup and Drop-off
- Private vehicles may drop off passengers at the curbside check-ins. Make sure your vehicles may not be stationary unless actively unloading passengers and/or baggage, and under no circumstances may vehicles be left unattended at the curb.
- Passengers can be picked up at the curb and make sure under no circumstances may vehicles be left unattended.
- Also, visitors can wait in the car at the Cell Phone Lot, until their passengers arrive and have retrieved their checked baggage.

Airport Terminals
The El Paso International Airport terminal is a pier-satellite layout. It has a central entrance and the gates branch out east to west on the two concourses - East Concourse and West Concourse. There are 15 gates and two levels - Upper Level and Lower Level.
Upper Level
The gates are located on the upper level of the Terminal. Gates A1-A4 are located on the West Concourse and Gates B1-B11 are located on the East Concourse.
Lower Level
The ticketing, baggage claim, rental car, and main entrance are located on the lower level of the terminal. Also, the meeter/greeter area is located on this level just behind the escalators that lead to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint leading to the gates.

Ground Transport
Passengers can easily travel to their destinations from the airport by opting for the most convenient mode - Rental Cars, Taxis, Public Transportation, etc.
Taxi
Taxis are licensed by the City of El Paso and metered. Taxi staging areas are located directly outside of the baggage claim area and are available 24 hours a day.
Rental Cars
Passengers are recommended to contact their rental car company in the event of a delayed flight for all inquiries concerning the reservation. Some of the renowned providers include Alamo, Avis, Hertz, etc.
Buses
Public transportation is another convenient option to travel from ELP Airport. Sun Metro offers two routes to the Airport 7 days a week. Route 33 offers daily service from Downtown to Bassett Place Shopping Center to the Airport. Route 50 offers daily service from Downtown to Cielo Vista Mall to the Airport.

El Paso Airport: A Brief History Timeline
- In 1928, the City of El Paso built the first El Paso Municipal Airport near the east side of the Franklin Mountains.
- In 1929, today's El Paso International Airport was built as Standard Airport by Standard Airlines for transcontinental air mail service.
- In 1936 American Airlines "swapped" airports with the City of El Paso and El Paso International Airport was born.
- On August 3, 1961, El Paso was the last stop of the first major US hijacking of a jetliner, a Boeing 707 owned by Continental Airlines.
- In 1968, El Paso was the first in the nation to have a 130 foot air traffic control tower.
- Major terminal renovations have been made over the past several years, designed and managed by the local architectural firm MNK Architects.
