St. Martin Princess Juliana International Airport SXM - now rebranded as 'SXM Princess Juliana Airport' is the second-busiest airport in the North-Eastern Caribbeans and serves the Dutch sector of the Island of 'Sint Maarten' at Simpson Bay - one of the five Netherlands Antilles Islands and closest to Puerto Rico - and is gateway of St.Maarten/ St.Martin - the smallest landmass in the world, shared by 2 countries (north side France & south side The Netherlands). SXM has received a number of awards in recent yeard - including the second International Travel Award in March 2016 and 'Caribbean Airport of the Year' in 2016.

SXM Airport is on St. Martin Island, about 15 km northwest of the town of Philipsburg, and is a hub to its immediate neighbors on Saba, St. Eustatius, Anguilla & St. Barths islands.
With yearly an estimated 1.9M passengers, SXM Princess Juliana Airport is hub to Windward Islands Airlines and is gateway for the smaller Leeward Islands of Anguilla, Saba, St. Barth & St. Eustatius. The short runway of 2,433 meters presents a challenge to airline pilots.
NOTE: On Sept. 2017 the Airport was badly destroyed by Hurricane Irma - along with much of the homes & hotels. However, the Airport reopened October 10. While work to make the Airport fully functional concentrated on the most urgent matters, it will take many months for the Airport's return to its previous glory. The passenger terminal information below is based on pre-hurricane status. Our next cycle of updating this Airport will keep visitors to this site updated.
The two-level air-conditioned passenger terminal has a capacity of 2.5M passengers annually. It houses Arrivals at the ground level and Departures on the first level. Self-serve check-in kiosks at Departures area and have been recently added as well as a new Departure Lounge and new concessions, while a new sophisticated security system has been activated. At the six new self-service security checkpoint e-Gates, passengers can now scan their bar-coded boarding pass to enter the departure hall. Also Automated Border Control e-Gates will be (or are already in place) easing passenges next step journey which includes exiting emigration, at the eGates passengers authenticate passport & hve photo taken; passenger then crosses the border and proceeds through security screening. Passengers who arrive will use self-service automated immigrtion control kiosks (by YVR), which are integrated into the Vision-Box Border Management suite.
Other Terminal facilities include 46 check-in desks, 10 transit-desks and 13 boarding-gates, 4 airbridges, 20 immigration and 5 emigration booths, 8 CSS self-service check-in kiosks, 21 duty-free retail outlets and 5 foood & drink outlets. Amenities include ATM machines, internet access (you can purchase 'airtime' from TelEm vending machines); some 40 shops and 12 food & drink establishments, some of which are unique to St. Maarten.
