1. Hanover Square Historic District
The architecture in Hanover Square dates back to the days when the Erie Canal ran through downtown Syracuse. Today, the square features an ornamental fountain and a recessed seating area, shielded from the hustle and bustle of the city. During the summer months, a daily lunchtime program presented by the City of Syracuse and Fleet Bank, “World in the Square“ features music, dance, and other entertainment. On Friday evenings in the summer, the Updowntowners host “Swingin' in the Square“ and “Dancin' in the Square“ with live music. Each February, Hanover Square is the focal point of the Winterfest celebration.
