General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport serves the City and County of the State of Illinois. It is classified as a military or civil public airport. The PIA airport is located at a distance of five miles towards the west of Peoria, in Peoria County, Illinois, United States.

Owned by the Metropolitan Airport Authority of Peoria, this airport is also called shortly as the Peoria International Airport. It is found on the northwest of Bartonville, near Bellevue and was previously titled the Greater Peoria Regional Airport.

With two long runways and 623,134 passengers in 2016, Peoria International Airport is presently served by Allegiant, American Eagle, Delta & United, offering nonstop flights to major U.S. hubs, with worldwide connections.

There are a total of twelve commercial airports in Illinois, of which the General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport is considered to be ranking as the fourth busiest airport of Illinois.

Main Terminal

The terminal building structure at the PIA airport has one main terminal building which houses all airport facilities.

There is one main entrance leading to the baggage claim carousels towards the left and airline ticketing lobby towards the right. Between these two lobbies there is Hotel & Visitor Information, an Automated Teller (ATM), Vending Machines, Meet & Greet Waiting Areas, Premier Conference Suite, Restaurants/Bars, and Restrooms.

This leads to a passage which houses the TSA screening area which provides access to the terminal gate area. This houses the terminal gates labelled as 1-14. Restrooms can be found conveniently across from Gates 4, 9 and 14. Across Gate 9 and 10 you can find a Children's Area and Vending Machines across Gate 8. There are also Restaurants/Bars options inside this area.

Towards the exit you can find Car Rentals Taxi & Bus Services.

Food, Shops & Amenities

There are various shopping and dining options in the PIA airport. For dining there is The Junction and for shopping there is the Gift Shop. There are two Vending Machines in the pre- and post-security areas for buying snacks.

Airline Lounges

There is a Premier Lounge open to all passengers. The services provided to the audience in the lounge include complimentary water or coffee along with comfortable leather seats in which the customers can relax.

Terminal Tips

  • Passengers are advised to arrive at least 2 hours before their scheduled departure time to account for TSA security wait times and any possible delays.
  • To ensure a smooth check-in process, passengers should pack carry-on luggage in a suitable manner, have photo ID ready, and read all the airline guidelines properly prior to arriving at the airport.
