Locations of Security Checkpoint(s)
MEL Airport has security checkpoints located in each of its four terminals. Passengers are required to pass through security before entering the departure lounge. The security checkpoints are equipped with X-ray machines and metal detectors to screen passengers and their belongings. Passengers are required to remove their shoes, belts, and jackets before passing through the metal detectors. Liquids and gels must be placed in a clear plastic bag and presented separately for screening. Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport early to allow sufficient time for security screening.
Fast Track Lanes and Locations
The airport offers Fast Track lanes for eligible passengers in each of its four terminals. The Fast Track lanes are located near the security checkpoints and are designed to provide a faster and more efficient screening process. These passengers can access the Fast Track lanes by presenting their boarding pass and membership card to the security staff. Passengers arriving in Melbourne from international destinations are required to pass through passport and immigration control before entering the baggage claim area. Australian citizens and permanent residents can use the SmartGate system for faster processing. The SmartGate system uses facial recognition technology to verify the passenger's identity and allows them to self-process through passport control. Non-Australian citizens must present their passport and visa to the immigration officer for processing. Passengers are advised to have all necessary travel documents ready before approaching passport and immigration control to avoid delays.
